Making Beijing more attractive for visitors
Trend Description:

By the end of this year, the Olympic tourist route will be newly presented and at least two Olympic Venues will be open to the tourists.
Among all the competition venues which are allowed to visit, the nest-like National Stadium and the National Aquatics, known as the “water cube”, will be the most attractive ones concerned by both foreign and domestic tourists.
But besides the official Olympic venues, more attractions will be developed to attract visitors before, during and after the games.
Cases:
Sky Boat Ferris Wheel
The Great Wheel Beijing, 208 meters high for sight viewing, is a large-scale transportable construction of steel structure. The wheel diameter is approximately 198 meters and 1,920 people can be carried simultaneously. It is estimated that the Sky Boat will be opened just before the Beijing Olympic Games. Both height and scale make it the biggest of all similar constructions in the world. After completion of the construction, it will be the highest representational sightseeing construction in Beijing during the 2008 Beijing Olympics.
Olympic Cultural Festival
Starting since 2003, a “Beijing Olympic Cultural Festival” will be held annually from June 23rd, the International Olympic Day, to July 13th, the day when Beijing succeeded in its Olympic bid in 2001. During the festival, lively cultural events that are rich in both content and form, including high-quality international art performances, will be staged to help extend the social impact of the Olympics, spread the Olympic ideal and demonstrate people’s enthusiasm for the Olympic Games. The Olympic Cultural Festivalin 2008 shall be a premiere Olympic cultural party by the highest international standards and shall represent a concentrated presentation of cultural exhibitions, art performances and many other cultural activities.
Trend impact:
In the upcoming years, efforts will be made to build Beijing into a city with concentrated cultural events.
On the way to the Olympics, an array of tourist sites and suburban tourist areas shall be aggressively developed to give them unique cultural features and strong standing in the market. Forest parks, theme parks, and sightseeing sites shall be developed to gain the attention of both tourists and local residents for modern sports, leisure and entertainment.
