For months, there has been a lot of action in the mobile payment market. Many companies now offer applications and solutions that let customers pay without cards or cash. As is so often the case, the most elegant solutions are the simple ones.

iPhone app ProcessAway turns iPhones into credit card terminals, enabling merchants to process credit card payments wherever they may be. The application (available for $19.99 from the Apple App Store) is tied to the merchant’s account on Authorize.net.

Trend Impact: ProcessAway has a better chance of gaining wide acceptance than other failed cash- and card-less payment systems, as many people are already used to shopping by credit card online. An even more interesting fact is that this iPhone application demonstrates that systems that formerly ran on their own infrastructure, like credit card systems on terminals, can be integrated into alternative devices and infrastructures, like the iPhone via the web.
