New blogging program in the works from NEC responds to users’ moods
NEC is working on a new “smart” blogging system called the “Listen, Look, Fun Blog” that will be able to “read” the mood of writers. Based on the words entered onto the screen, the system is able to judge the writer’s feelings and then insert appropriate text decorations or voice expressions into the post. Text decorations include font styles/size,color, and inserting icons such as emoticons.
The system draws on two new functions developed by NEC, the ominous sounding “mind judgment craft” and “variable tone voice synthesis craft.” Listen, Look Fun Blog generates the text decorations and voice expressions automatically, doing so at random though presumably based on certain key words. Furthermore, for bloggers using their mobile phones to generate content, NEC’s system offers an additional service. Voice recognition software will translate voice-recorded messages sent from a mobile into text, and again insert the suitable extras.
The way NEC sees it, blogs are becoming more and more a primary means for personal communication—recently enhanced by the introduction of videos and voice recorded messages. By allowing bloggers, to update via their mobile phones they will be more likely to do this everyday, if not several times a day. Yet while uploading videos and photos is typically a one step process, creating text and layout is more time consuming—Listen, Look Fun Blog attempts to simplify that.
