The 2008 PSFK Conference in New York offered innovative ideas and inspiration from a diverse panel of industry experts. CScout’s CEO Florian Peter monitored a panel on the Future of TV.

Our friends at PSFK hosted their second annual ideas conference in New York.

Highlights of the Conferences:

  • Grant McCracken offered the insights that “consumption is now about enabling”
  • Robert Klein co-founder of Etsy said that he wanted to create an online bazaar, where the socializing aspects of shopping has been lost in the big-box store experience.
  • Eric Ripert, Executive Chef at Le Bernardin, explained how his new line of prepared food for the toaster oven came out of cooking experiences in his own household. In contrast to typical wisdom, he designs new dishes first for himself and the customer comes second, implying that diners are Le Bernardin are looking for the unexpected.
  • Jeff Staple noted that the key to the success of Nike’s initial foray into sustainability with his design of the 2002 Nike Considered sneaker was complete transparency of its materials and production.
  • Jeffrey Hollender of Seventh Generation, noted the need for better ways to measure sustainability for people and as well as their products and services. A key question that was asked, was “how good you have to be, in order to be good enough?
  • Ricky Van Veen, co-founder of CollegeHumor.com said that the Internet is not yet the “end game” for writers and actors. He noted that as more ad spending dollars move from the offline world to the online world, the Internet could become the end-game as well as attract more top talent.
