Update: Video Portal Marketing

Written By Josefine Koehn on Friday, June 30, 2006 at 11:42 AM | In Lifestyle, Marketing, USA

Trend Description:
As we reported in March 2006, marketers are submitting video to viewer created content channels like You Tube or video portals like Google video to participate in the exponential growth of the medium.

Cases

YouTube and the Weinstein Company
The Weinstein Company now uses YouTube to promote movies. Right now two trailers of the multi-media company are up and running: Clerks II and Lucky Number Slevin. The Weinstein group was founded in 2005 by Bob and Harvey Weinstein, known for the Miramax Film Corporation. As of June 28th 2006 the trailers, which went online three month ago, were viewed 6115 times.

Trend Impact:
The success of viewer created content channels is an open invitation for marketers to use this medium to catch people’s attention. Viewers also seem to be more than open to view commercials which are distributed via these portals. As more and more consumers avoid watching TV commercials (especially with the advent of DVRs) or even feel offended by long commercial breaks on television, the online versions seem to not only catch the attention of many viewers but also spread virally on an international level.
