Vodcast is an emerging term used for the online delivery of video on demand content via RSS enclosures. The term is an evolution specialized for video, coming from the generally audio-based podcast and referring to Video On Demand (VOD) and (web-, narrow-, broad-) casting.
VODcasts are TV-channels with on-demand titles instead of scheduled shows. Subscribe once, and new episodes are added automatically.
VODcast channels can be consumed on the desktop, on-the-go on your portable media player, and even on your big-screen in the living room.



Cases:

Honda Civic being launched with vodcast

As part of the launch of the new Civic, Honda is creating a two-minute spot that will not only be available for viewing over the internet but also downloadable as a vodcast. The spot will be hosted on a microsite that will also have other content about the Civic and will be accompianed by behind the scenes material, also downloadable. In addition to being on the dedicated site the spots will be available via iTunes and other podcast/vodcast sites and services. The site and it’s contents will be promoted through online ads.

VODCARS.com Launches First Automotive Vodcast

VODCARS announced the launch of the world’s first automotive vodcast featuring videos from automotive enthusiast communities around the world. Each weekly episode contains several short-form videos, packaged into 5 to 10 minute episodes by the Vodcars team.
Vodcars has already received thousands of videos. With street races, car shows and other informal events caught on camera.

BMW Vodcast

BMW has now started their own Vodcast, available both in iPod and PSP formats. The official BMW Vodcast offers news and highlights about the company and its products. The first show features the BMW Z4 M Roadster.

Trend impact:

Vodcasts are the video version of podcasts, the fastest growing media distribution platform available today. A survey of several popular podcast and vodcast directories revealed that there are currently over 100,000 podcasts but less than 1,000 vodcasts.
