High-Tech Trolley
Now that the electronic self-checkout lanes are popularFujitsu came up with an even smarter idea. Australian supermarket-shoppers get to test push a high-tech version of an ordinary shopping cart, the U-Scan Shopper.

Fujitsu’s high-tech trolley comes with a display screen, which allows shoppers to scan items as they shop. This way the consumers don’t have to spend as much time at the cashier or check out counter.
The carts can also advertise specials in each aisle and can even remind regular customers what they might have forgotten. Although the collection of shopping behaviors might raise some privacy concerns, the manufacturers are optimistic that the efficiency will persuade consumers. To be recognized, shoppers have to scan their loyalty card.
By collecting data, the high-tech trolley helps retailers to consider how their store is laid out, how people use the aisles and where products should be placed to sell best. Marketers can directly send messages to the consumers, offer coupons, or tell them about current discounts. Fujitsu’s U-Scan Shopper sure opens new opportunities.
At some point your might even be able to send a shopping list to your high-tech trolley. You do not have to be worried that your husband will forget to buy the milk again, or your roommate will forget about the toilet paper. Wouldn’t that be wonderful? Let us know if you have any other ideas about future super-efficient shopping scenarios.
