Trend: Hotelroom-boutique

By partnering with other companies, hotels can offer their guest more than just a bed, jacuzzi and cable tv. While the hotels might win more guests, the companies can actually market their products. As a summer promotion, Fairmont Hotels in Canada are offering PSPs to guests. The units are available on a first come, first serve basis. The rental is complimentary, of course, with a personal choice of games and movies.

Brighton’s Hotel Pelirocco, England’s most Rock N Roll hangout, also features a Playstation in each of its nineteen popculture themed rooms. Nike operates Runner’s Lounges in Montreal, Toronto, and Vancouver, where amateur athletes can experiment with various shoe models. French Etap hotels partnered up with IKEA to equip all 60 Etap budget hotels in Germany with a room featuring exclusively IKEA furniture. All Radisson resorts and hotels in the US, Canada and the Caribbean feature Sleep Number beds by Select Comfort Corporation.

Guest demand has even driven some hoteliers into the retail market. After Holiday Inn Express introduced its proprietary Kohler-made shower head, requests came pouring in. The shower head now sells for $75 via the chain’s Web site. Sofitel Hotels offer a selected variety of objects on the hotels web-shop SoBoutique, Sofitel Shopping & Design. Available are room-accessories like vases, candles, pillows, but also chairs, bath-robes or duvet-covers. W Hotels also markets a selection of home furnishings online. In retail shops at some properties visitors of trendy W Hotels can purchase design items found in the hotel .
