Event: Hyperpolis

We would like to showcase a provocative and cutting edge symposium on new media and digital culture at the new Integrated Digital Media Institute which CScout’s own, Dominic Pettman, will be co-moderating.
The Polytechnic University Brooklyn – belated birth-place of such technologies as radar, teflon, and barcodes – is putting together an event to ask two important questions.
1) Has the information revolution ushered in a new rationality – an Age of Reason 2.0?
2) Do the digital networks within which we increasingly exist allow for the vision and implementation of a cyber-city – a virtually actual “hyperpolis” – on this side of the millennium?
But don’t presume this is just another dry academic conference, with pedantic jargon-filled debates over semantics, because it promises to be a vital exchange between theorists, artists, teachers, writers, journalists, administrators, curators, and producers. In fact, the whole gathering wraps up practicing what it preaches, with a live Video-Jockey party inside the Polytech’s 9-screen multimedia space.
The event is moderated by CScout’s own, Dominic Pettman.

Date: Thursday, 5/5/05, starting 1pm.
Location: Polytechnic University’s Brooklyn campus, Metrotech Center, Jay Street.
2 interdisciplinary panel sessions in the Dibner auditiorium, followed by a D-VJ party in the Polytechnic Hall of Fame.
Registration: $20, $10 for students & adjuncts (complimentary sandwich buffet after the panels)
